Educated at Cambridge and Berkeley, Wayne is a philosopher by training. Since 2009, much of his research has been at the interdisciplinary intersection of philosophy, human rights, and care policy. As Director of the Autonomy Project at the University of Essex, he works closely with clinical, social care and legal professionals and service users to develop a better understanding of decision-making under conditions of serious mental illness. His team provides research support to government bodies across the UK and around the world in ongoing efforts to bring mental health and mental capacity law into compliance with modern human rights standards.
